EXERCISE (Skills 24-25): Each of the following sentences contains at least one adjective or adverb. Circle the adjectives and adverbs, and label them. Then indicate if the sentences are correct (C) or incorrect (I).



1.      The chef prepared a delicately sauce.
Analysis:
It’s incorrect because delicately should be delicate.

2.      Matthew feels terribly angry about the issue.
Analysis:
It’s correct.
Terribly it is used as an adverb: very; extremely

3.      The swimmer swam powerful across the pool.
Analysis:
It’s incorrect because powerful should be powerfully.
Powerfully it is used as an adverb.

4.      The receptionist answered the phone carefully.
Analysis:
It’s correct.
Carefully it is used as an adverb.

5.      The dishes in the sink were dirty.
Analysis:
It’s correct.
Dirty it is used as an adjective.

6.      The physics exam seemed quite simply to me.
Analysis:
It’s incorrect because simply should be simple.
Quite it is used as an adverb: to a certain or fairly significant extent or degree; fairly.

7.      He acted unbelievably rude.
Analysis:
It’s correct.
Unbelievably it is used as an adverb.

8.      The burned toast didn’t taste very good.
Analysis:
It’s correct.
Good it is used as an adjective.

9.      His decision was absolutely necessary.
Analysis:
It’s correct.
Absolutely it is used as an adverb.

10.      The job applicant dressed carefully for the important interview.
Analysis:
It’s correct.
Carefully it is used as an adverb.
